John 3:16-17 NIV

in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son
into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

This
Week’s Bible passage from the Gospel of Mark:
Mark 15:6-15
Read
the passage below:
|
Mark 15:6-15 NIV
6Now it was the custom at the Feast to release a prisoner whom the
people requested. 7A man called Barabbas was in prison with the
insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising. 8The
crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.
9"Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?"
asked Pilate, 10knowing it was out of envy that the chief priests
had handed Jesus over to him. 11But the chief priests stirred up the
crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead.
12"What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the
Jews?" Pilate asked them.
13"Crucify him!" they shouted.
14"Why? What crime has he committed?" asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, "Crucify him!"
But they shouted all the louder, "Crucify him!"
15Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He
had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
John 18:38-40 NIV
38"What is truth?" Pilate asked. With this he went out again
to the Jews and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him. 39But
it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the
Passover. Do you want me to release 'the king of the Jews'?"
40They shouted back, "No, not him! Give us Barabbas!" Now
Barabbas had taken part in a rebellion.
John 19:1 NIV
Jesus
Sentenced to be Crucified
Then
Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.

The chief priests handed over Jesus out of envy. Jesus’ ministry was a
threat to the Jewish leaders. They wanted to control the people but Jesus
wanted to set them free. We can help free others from their spiritual blindness
by pointing them to Jesus. (Check out the Scripture below)
John 8:31-32 NIV
To
the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you
are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth
will set you free.”
Romans 8:1-2New International Version (NIV)
Life
Through the Spirit
Therefore,
there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because
through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from
the law of sin and death.
John 11:25 NIV
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;
John 14:6 NIV
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
·
The chief priests stir up the crowd to in order to get Jesus crucified.
Persecution and trials are part of the Christian life.
John 15:20 NIV
Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.
Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.
·
We should not act like the chief priests but rather live a life that is holy
pleasing to God. In order to do this we are ourselves must be transformed.
Romans 12:1-2 NIV
Therefore,
I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living
sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act
of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be
able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect
will.
What are the main points in this passage?

Is there a lesson or principle that is a universal truth?
·
Jesus is truly the King of the Jews. Many of the Jews however, were looking for
a different kind of king who would free them from Roman rule. Even though the
Jews knew Old Testament scripture they did not fully understand God’s plan of
salvation and therefore missed the fact that Jesus was their Messiah.
·
Jesus was flogged and crucified.
Isaiah 53:3 NIV
He
was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with
suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we
esteemed him not.
Isaiah 53:5 NIV
But
he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Why did God put this passage in the Bible?
·
To remind us that Jesus willingly suffered in order to fulfill God’s plan of
salvation.
·
To show us that the Jews did not recognize the Messiah even though the prophets
told about Him through God’s written Word.
·
To remind us of the importance of understanding God’s Word.
·
To remind us how dangerous it is to take our eyes off the truth and focus in on
our own personal desires.

Application: How can I apply what I have learned to my life?
·
Where am I allowing envy or other people to push me into wrong actions?
·
Where am I pretending that I don’t know God’s will instead of being obedient to

·
Regarding my own life, what shall I do with Jesus?
……………………………………………………………………………….......
My
prayer for you:
I pray you will take God’s Word to heart and ask God to help you

Jesus
declared that if we seek God, he will provide everything we need to live the
abundant life, providing for us physically and spiritually:
Matthew 6:32-33 Living Bible (TLB)
“So
don’t worry at all about having enough food and clothing. Why be like the
heathen? For they take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about
them. But your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them,
and he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live
as he wants you to.
John 10:10 English Standard Version (ESV)
The
thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may
have life and have it abundantly.
Philippians 4:19 New Living Translation (NLT)
And
this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his
glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
John 14:26 (NIV)
But
the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will
teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Also,
remember the importance and impact of embracing of God’s Word in light of how
we are to be God’s Ambassadors and Teachers, as well as to live abundantly in a
fallen world:
1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
But
in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an
answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
But do this with gentleness and respect,
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
All
Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped
for every good work.
Psalm 119:105 (ESV)
Your
word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
