Heart Of the Artist Part 9 Talking Points Review

Heart Of the Artist Part 9 Talking Points Review :

Romans 12:1 NIV
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies
as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

Jealousy and Envy (Thou shall not covet)

If you are an artist you need to know how to deal with jealousy and envy, because
there will always be someone more talented, more successful, more in vogue, more attractive, or more prominent in ministry than you.

Jealousy and envy can disrupt unity in a ministry.

Other Topics:
Anger and contempt - Do not sin in your anger

Ephesians 4:26 NIV
In your anger do not sin Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,

The need to confess our sin:

James 3:14 NIV
But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast
about it or deny the truth.

Appreciate your God given talent. Be grateful to God:

1 Peter 4:10 NIV
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully
administering God's grace in its various forms.

Give credit where credit is due.

Faithfulness & obedience to God is important.

We tread on dangerous ground when we start comparing ourselves with others.

Worship God more so than the gift you have been given. You have
received greater Gift that will resonate for eternity.

Hebrews 12:28 NIV
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be
thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,

Be thankful in how God has gifted you and other people.

1 Corinthians 12:11 AMP
All these [gifts, achievements, abilities] are inspired and brought to pass by one
and the same [Holy] Spirit, Who apportions to each person individually [exactly] as He chooses.

Develop relationships instead of rivalries. We tend to alienate ourselves from the
people we envy. Do not be threatened by the talents of others. God has created
a unique work in you. Don’t flaunt what you got.

Question to think about:
What do you think prevents us from being content with the talents we have been given?

Challenge:
Confess the names of any people in your life toward whom you have feelings
of Jealousy and envy?

Confess this sin to God and ask Him to help you in dealing with it?

Think about how you can turn your jealousy and envy into worship.

We are all worship leaders. Whatever we do we need to remember who we are in Christ and The purpose He has given us. Everyday we have the opportunity to lead someone to the cross. The best way to do that is to show that we ourselves believe and model what we preach. We all have a God story to tell.

1 Peter 3:15-16 NIV
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to
everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this
with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak
maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

We need to live a life of worship, not just on Sunday for one hour.

Romans 12:1 NIV
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as
living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

Mark 12:30 NIV
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your
mind and with all your strength.

Psalm 150:6 NIV
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.

Ephesians 4:1 NIV
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling
you have received.

Ephesians 5:2 NIV
and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant
offering and sacrifice to God.

Colossians 1:10 NIV
And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may
please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the
knowledge of God,

Living a life of Worship is the essence of the true heart of the artist. In order to
live this life we have to focus on the things of God. The Christian life is a process
where we have to consciously avoid those things that pull us away from Godly
living, and also avoid those things that take priority over our relationship with
Him. We need to live in submission to God’s will where we offer our very lives
in obedience to Him. We need to come to a point where our identity as true
followers of Christ model faith and deeds working together.  We are to practice
what we preach.

I hope you have enjoyed exploring the Heart Of The Artist. One thing we can learn
is that without Jesus we can do nothing as far as bearing fruit for His Kingdom.

Jesus put it this way:

John 15:5 NIV
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him,
he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

As an artist in the Church or for that matter whatever we do in this Christian life
we must do it with purpose and in obedience to our Lord. With a Christ-centered
Heart a love for others and with the Holy Spirit’s guiding hand, we will make a positive difference in this life for God’s kingdom. Remember this:

Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Heart Of the Artist Part 9

Heart Of the Artist Part 9:

Romans 12:1 NIV
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies
as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship

Jealousy and Envy (Thou shall not covet)

Have you ever envied the talents of another artist?
Have you ever been jealous of someone else’s success?

If you are an artist you need to know how to deal with jealousy and envy, because
there will always be someone more talented, more successful, more in vogue, more attractive, or more prominent in ministry than you.

Jealousy and envy are serious sins in the eyes of God.

Galatians 5:19-21 NIV
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Jealousy and envy can disrupt unity in a ministry.

“What could be more costly than a person giving his life in service by living a
way of the very highest of standards that his mind and body do not by nature
and habit want to live? It requires a decision that will from time to time
bring intense pressure upon him to control himself against strong drives
to go in an entirely different direction. But he must control himself if he is
to work in the service of God”.
John W. Ritenbaugh

Jesus calls upon His followers to reject the natural human inclination toward
self. The first step is to submit and surrender to God our will, our affections,
our bodies, and our lives. Our own pleasures and happiness can no longer be
primary goals. Instead, we must be willing to renounce all and lay down our
lives, if required. Peter admonishes us to "no longer live . . . in the flesh for
the lusts of men," meaning we should no longer pursue wrong desires.
Are we willing to forsake all, to give up everything including our lives?
Our Christian duty is to deny our lust of the flesh.
Martin G. Collins

Heart Of the Artist Part 8 Talking Points Review

Heart Of the Artist Part 8 Talking Points Review:

1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Excellence Verses Perfectionism

Perfectionism is one of the artist’s biggest battles.
Perfectionism takes the joy out of someone’s art and ministry.

Look at yourself in what ways are you a perfectionist?

It can take just one negative comment to cause an artist to play a negative
scenario over in one’s mind and torturing that person to know end. It can lead to
spiritual battles as well. Where the voice of the enemy can destroy our self
esteem even to the level of effecting ones ministry.

For the perfectionist one thing gone wrong means everything gone wrong.
Perfectionism is a subtle form of sin. (Controlling one’s environment, protecting oneself, trying to be in control of things that God has sovereignty over)

Helpful hints for the perfectionist:
·        Avoid black and white thinking. (Something is either all good or all bad)
·        Avoid being overly critical.
·        Avoid setting high unrealistic expectations.
·        Savor the positive.
·        Celebrate what God is doing through you.
·        Let God be perfect, let us be obedient.
·        Focus on God’s Glory not our own.
·        Base your self image on who you are in Christ not what you do for Him.
·        Have a healthy concept of God.
·        Lose yourself in God.

Matthew 10:39 NIV
Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

·        Don’t make self esteem your God.
·        With God’s help set realistic expectations.

Pursue excellence:

Do the best you can with what you have all for the glory of God.

Christ modeled excellence for us.

Excellence is also a powerful witness for Christ.

When we do things with excellence the world will sit up and take notice, and we
can point them to God who created us, gifted us and loves us.

Developing  your skill:
·        Do the best you can do with the talent you have been given.
·        Perform or create skillfully.
·        Shoot high artistically.
·        Continue to develop your skills. Keep your chops in shape.
         (Have a daily practice routine)
·        Be trainable. Learn from others. Study your art.
·        Look for quality and integrity. Study the masters.
·        Give God your best.

Colossians 3:23 NIV
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord,
not for men,

Pursuing excellence also means being original and creative.

Be who God created us to be. Make your art reflective of you relationship
with God.

Always prepare yourself spiritually before you do anything for God.
Pray before rehearsal and before Worship.

Personally spend time with God early on Sunday morning to prepare your heart for worship.

Always be prepared to be ambassadors for Christ in this world.

Acts 1:8 NIV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be
my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

When we are filled with the Holy Spirit we become powerful witnesses for Jesus Christ.

The most important ingredient for effective communication is sincerity.

Do we really believe what we sing about?

Live a spirit filled life.

When Handling Criticism:

Respond with grace:
Be Slow to speak, be slow to be angry.

James 1:19 NIV
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen,
slow to speak and slow to become angry,

Be discerning:
·        Discretion: the trait of judging wisely and objectively
·        Discernment is a process of prayerful reflection which leads a person or community to understanding of God's call at a given time.
·        Prayerful reflection and discussion before taking a major decision.
·        Discernment is a process that frees and opens us up to God's will.

Have a Teachable Spirit:
·        Be open to feedback
·        There is always room for improvement

Learn how to fail graciously:
·        It is OK to fail
·        Own up to mistakes
·        Just because we fail does not mean we are a failure.

Ask yourself:
Why are artists afraid to fail?

Are you open to others suggestions?
Would you more likely consider another persons perspective knowing they
may have Godly discernment?

It is easy to become self focused when it comes to serving as an artist in the
church. We must remember to always be God focused. Serving with excellence
does not mean we have to be perfect, but it does mean we have to rely on a
perfect God to guide our ministry and our acts of Worship. When we invite
God into the equation we have the formula for success in God’s kingdom.
Success is not one’s perception of one’s achievement of the perfect performance. Success is rather the way God transforms our offering of praise into His purpose of drawing others into relationship with Him. God gives us the privilege to share in leading others to salvation in Christ. We should be grateful for this privilege and opportunity to serve our most awesome Heavenly Father in this way.

Heart Of the Artist Part 8

Heart Of the Artist Part 8:

1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV

Excellence Verses Perfectionism

Perfectionism is one of the artist’s biggest battles.
Perfectionism takes the joy out of someone’s art and ministry.

Look at yourself in what ways are you a perfectionist?
What are your quirks?

Perfectionism tends to maximize the negative and minimize the positive.

It can take just one negative comment to cause an artist to play a negative
scenario over in one’s mind and torturing that person to know end. It can lead to
spiritual battles as well. Where the voice of the enemy can destroy our self
esteem even to the level of effecting ones ministry.

Communicate effectively.

Great art communicates a message, an idea, a thought, a feeling, or an emotion.

Communication is just as important as technique.

Have you ever seen musicians with great technique yet they only communicate
self absorption and mindless meandering without conveying the very essence
Of true art that carries any kind of communicative emotion.
