heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known. Some were saying,[a] “John the
Baptist has been raised from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are
at work in him.”
15 Others said,
“He is Elijah.”
And
still others claimed, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of long
ago.”
16 But when Herod
heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised from the dead!”

Lesson: What do I learn from this passage?
Willful
ignorance and deliberate unbelief try to account for Jesus Christ in any way
but the right way.
Is
there a warning, command or promise?
·
Is
there an example to follow or not to follow?
·
We
should test everything that is told to us about God and salvation with what the
scripture really says.

Thessalonians 5:19-22 NIV
Do
not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with
contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the
good. Avoid every kind of evil.

We
should be careful not to explain away the miracles that Jesus did as anything
else but supernatural power and authority given to Him by God.
What are the
main points in this passage?
·
Jesus’
name became well known.
·
Herod
heard about what Jesus and the disciples were doing.
·
Some
People believed Jesus was John The Baptist raised from the dead. They also thought Jesus was the prophet
Elijah. Others thought Jesus was a prophet like the ones from long ago.
·
Because
of what he had heard, Herod believed that this man Jesus was John The Baptist
raised from the dead.
Is
there a lesson or principle that is a universal truth?
·
Jesus’
name to this day continues to be well known.
·
People
have heard about all the miraculous things Jesus has done and what the prophets
said about Him, yet they still denied Jesus was the Messiah.
·
People
try to explain away the miraculous things Jesus has done by twisting the truth
or making up lies.
·
People
deny Jesus is Lord because they are running away from God and don’t want to
have any authority or accountability in their lives. They believe this to be freedom yet it is
actually their imprisonment and death sentence. In other words, they are dead
to God and Alive to sin.
Why
did God put this passage in the Bible?
·
To
show us how the world wants to explain away the truth about God and the divine
nature of Jesus.
What
does the passage reveal about the character of God/Jesus?
A.
His attributes: Jesus’ was
fully divine and fully man. He has two distinct natures. (Jesus' two natures
are not "mixed together," nor are they combined into a new God-man nature.
They are separate yet act as a unit in the one person of Jesus. This is called
the Hypostatic Union.)
B.
His ways of relating/communicating to people: Through others testimony.

His emotions:

Bible is one of the essential keys in our quest to understand the truth about

you:
I

Pray! Ask God to help you understand the
passage of scripture you are

you are learning.

Write down your thoughts and prayers. Seek to understand
what God is
trying to teach you.

Begin to make
changes in your patterns of behavior in accordance to
God’s
teaching.

Act
on God’s answer to prayer.
·
Put God
first in your life in every area of your life
(Marriage, Parenting, Ministry, Work
etc.).

Be
determined to make quality & quantity time for God in
your life
(ex. Quiet time,
prayer time, Bible reading/study).
