The Gospel Of Mark Bible Study Lesson 24:
This
week’s Bible Study of Mark’s Gospel will again include questions for you to answer.
Once you finish the lesson on your own. You can look at my answers. Anytime you
do Bible study ask yourself these 3 questions:
3 questions:
·
What is this passage about?
·
What do I learn from this passage?
·
How can I apply what I have learned to my life?
Scripture to meditate on
before you do this week’s Bible study:
John
3:16 NIV :
"For God so loved the world that he gave
his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish
but have eternal life.
1 Corinthians 15:12-18 NIV :
But
if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of
you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection
of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been
raised, our
preaching
is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false
witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from
the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if
the
dead
are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not
been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also
who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost.

This
Week’s Bible passage from the Gospel of Mark:
Mark
5:35-43
Read the passage below:
Mark
5:35-43 New International Version
35 While Jesus was
still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue
leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
36 Overhearing what
they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
37 He did not let
anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When
they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with
people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to
them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 But
they laughed at him.
After
he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples
who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took
her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little
girl, I say to you, get up!”). 42 Immediately the girl stood up
and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were
completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let
anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

2.
Lesson: What do I learn from this passage?
Believing Jesus words without
fear will bring new life into any apparently hopeless situation.
Is
there a warning, command or promise?
·
“Don’t
be afraid, just believe.” “Little girl I say to you get up”. Jesus said these
things as a command. The first we can apply to our lives, the second shows
Jesus’ power and authority over death.
Is
there an example to follow or not to follow?
·
There
are those who mock and laugh at those who are followers of Jesus. If we truly
are followers of Jesus we should not doubt the fact that Jesus has the power to
restore our broken lives. We should be
convinced that Jesus died for our sins and was resurrected from the dead. If
Jesus had the power to perform this miracle why should we doubt the resurrection? Many people believe in the supernatural, so
why is it so difficult for them to believe in God and to believe in the
resurrection?
What
are the main points in this passage?
·
When
Jesus found out from some men from the house of Jairus, that Jairus’ daughter had died, He told Jairus not to be
afraid and to continue to believe.
·
Jesus
along with some of His disciples, Peter, James and John, went to
Jairus’ home to see the little
girl who died.
·
Those
who were mourning the loss of the little girl laughed at Jesus when He said the
child was not dead but asleep.
·
Jesus
went where the child was and commanded her to “get up”.
·
Immediately
the girl stood up and walked around.
·
Everyone
was completely astonished that Jesus performed this miracle.
·
He
gave strict orders to those who witnessed the miracle not to tell anyone.
Is
there a lesson or principle that is a universal truth?
·
Jesus
has the power and authority to heal and raise people from the dead.
·
Having
faith in Jesus brings new life to those who believe in His work on the cross.
·
Faith
in Jesus gives us hope.
Why
did God put this passage in the Bible?
·
To show us the power that Jesus has to heal
those who are sick and remind us that believers will not experience a spiritual
death but have eternal life. God used
the example of Jairus’ faith in Jesus and his belief that Jesus could save His
daughter, as an example of a saving faith. God wants to remind us that our faith in Jesus and
what He did on the cross will save us.
What
does the passage reveal about the character of God/Jesus?
A.
His attributes: Powerful, Authoritative, Caring, Loving,
Healer
B.
His ways of relating/communicating to people: Personal interaction,
His word.
C.
His emotions:
Compassion for the sick. Loving toward the faithful.
D.
His views: Those who believe and have faith in Jesus
will be saved.
E.
Reasons for us to love Him more:
Jesus saves us from eternal separation from God.
3.
Life Application (Personal):
·
With
what seemingly hopeless situation is Jesus ready to help me today if I will
believe in Him?
·
How can I turn from unbelieving “wails” around
me and look in faith to Jesus’ power?
·
What
“little” practical things can I do today that can bring strength to others?

My
prayer for you:
I pray you will take
God’s Word to heart and ask God to help you apply what you have learned. I hope
and pray that this Bible Study helps you grow spiritually by deepening your
faith, trust and love for God.
Jesus
declared that if we seek God, he will provide everything we need to live the
abundant life, providing for us physically and spiritually:
Matthew
6:32-33 Living Bible (TLB)
“So
don’t worry at all about having enough food and clothing. Why be like the heathen?
For they take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about them.
But your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them, and
he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live as
he wants you to.
John 10:10
English Standard Version (ESV)
The
thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have
life and have it abundantly.
Philippians
4:19 New Living Translation (NLT)
And
this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious
riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
John 14:26
(NIV)
But
the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach
you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Also, remember the
importance and impact of embracing of God’s Word in light of how we are to be
God’s Ambassadors and Teachers, as well as to live abundantly in a fallen
world:
1 Peter
3:15 (NIV)
But
in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer
to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do
this with gentleness and respect,
2 Timothy
3:16-17 (NIV)
All
Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training
in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every
good work.
Psalm
119:105 (ESV)
Your
word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
John
8:31-32 (NIV)
To
the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are
really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you
free.”
