This
week’s Bible passage from the Gospel of Mark:
Read the passage
below:
Mark
2:23-3:6 New International Version (NIV)
Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath
23 One Sabbath Jesus
was going through the grain fields, and as his disciples walked along, they
began to pick some heads of grain. 24 The Pharisees said to
him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”
25 He answered, “Have
you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in
need? 26 In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered
the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for
priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.”
27 Then he said to
them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So
the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
Mark
3:1-6
Jesus Heals on the Sabbath
Another
time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2 Some
of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely
to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3 Jesus said to the
man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”
4 Then Jesus asked
them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life
or to kill?” But they remained silent.
5 He looked around
at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the
man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely
restored. 6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with
the Herodian’s how they might kill Jesus.

We
should avoid judging others based on legalism. (strict conformity to the
letter of the law rather than its spirit)…see verse below:
Galatians 2:16 NIV
Know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.
Know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.

·
To
show that Jesus’ refusal to obey the restrictive and harmful man-made laws did
not violate the “spirit” of the Sabbath. (What God intended the Sabbath to be)

My prayer for you:
I
pray you will take God’s Word to heart and ask God to help you apply what you
have learned. I hope and pray that this Bible Study helps you grow spiritually
by deepening your faith, trust and love for God.
Jesus declared that if we seek God, he will take care of the rest
of the things in our lives:
(Matthew 6:33) "Seek first
His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as
well"
In
your life, put God first, and He will take care of "all these
things."
Also remember the importance and impact
of embracing of God’s Word in light of how we are to be God’s Ambassadors and Teachers,
as well as to live abundantly in a fallen world:
1 Peter 3:15 NIV
But
in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always
be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for
the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
2
Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
All Scripture is
God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in
righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good
work.
Psalm 119:105 ESV
Your word is a
lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
John
8:31-32New International Version (NIV)
To
the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If
you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then
you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
