Quick review of James Chapter 1

Quick review of James Chapter 1

If you are need of good instruction to help you live out the life God has called you to live, then reading the Book of James and applying God's principles written in the Book, will give you the proper insight and direction to live set apart to God.

We live in a fallen world. All you have to do is look around and keep an ear to the news of the day and you will see a daily dose of broken people continuing to suffer due to the sin nature of mankind. Those who follow Christ know that joy is possible even in the most difficult of circumstances. This is due to the eternal perspective given to us by God's Word and with the power of Holy Spirit who will change us in a Christ-like way starting from the inside out. With the Holy Spirit's supernatural intervention into our minds and hearts, we can be joyful in even in during the trials of life, be guided into making good decisions, be taught how to live set apart to God, Love even those who don't love us, and make changes to our habits and actions that represent who we are as a new creation in Christ

Let's look at some important verses and passages from James Chapter 1 that can help us develop into a follower of Jesus who represents Him well in thought and in action.

James 1:2-5 (NIV1984)
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,

because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete,
not lacking anything.  If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who
gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

James 1:12 (NIV1984)
"Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial,
because when he stood the test, he will receive the
crown of life that God has promised to those who love
him."

James 1:19-20 (NIV1984)
"Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and
slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring
about the righteous life that God desires."

James 1:21 (NIV1984)
"Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil
that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word
planted in you, which can save you."

James 1:22 (NIV1984)
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive
yourselves. Do What it says."

James 1:25 (NIV1984)
"The man who looks intently into the perfect law that
gives freedom, and continues to do this, not
forgetting what he has heard, but doing it- he will be
blessed in what he does."

James 1:26 (NIV1984)
"If anyone considers himself religious and yet does
not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives
himself and his religion is worthless."

 James 1:27 (NIV1984)

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look
after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being
polluted by the world.

These are all great verses to refer to regularly. I am sure we
have all faced trials and temptations lately so it is important to
pray and stay close God's Word by remembering God's promises
and taking them to heart. If we do this together, as the body of Christ, we
can minister to one another and others who are struggling with their sin nature
and with living life in a fallen world.
