Mark 13:24-27

Mark 13:24-27 NIV 24"But in those days, following that distress, " 'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; 25the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'[a] 26"At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.   Scripture Links:   Matthew 24:29-31  /  Luke 21:25-28

·        After the Tribulation, darkness and chaos in the universe will signal the return of Jesus to gather His elect.  

Who are the people if any?

·        Jesus and some of His Disciples (Peter, James, John & Andrew) (Matthew refers to His disciples) (Luke refers to some of His disciples)

    What are they doing?

·        Jesus is speaking to Peter, James, John & Andrew (His disciples)

      

Where does this take place?

·        On the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.

When does this take place?

·        Late in Jesus’ ministry after Jesus warned his disciples about the tribulation period before His return.

2.    Lesson: What do I learn from this passage?

·        God has a plan to end the world as we know it.

Is there a warning, command or promise?

 Following the distress of the Tribulation Jesus tells His disciples that:

·        The sun will be darkened,
The moon will not give its light;
The stars will fall from the sky,
The heavenly bodies will be shaken. 

·        Men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.

·        The Son of Man will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

Is there an example to follow or not to follow?

·        We should pay attention to the signs Jesus is telling us to look for so we know that it is Him who is coming. Remember we need to beware of false Christ’s.

What are the main points in this passage?

·        Jesus tells His disciples about the signs to for when He returns.

·        There will be specific signs in the sky before Jesus returns.

·        The Son of Man will be seen coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

·        Jesus also tells His disciples what is going to happen to His elect.

·        The angels will gather His elect (All Believers) that are spread throughout the entire earth.

Is there a lesson or principle that is a universal truth?

·        Angels continue to be active in God’s Plan of Salvation.

·        Jesus has the power and authority to do what He says He will do.

   Why did God put this passage in the Bible?

·        To remind us that there will be specific signs to look for before Jesus returns.

·        To reveal to us that the Second coming of Christ will be a spectacular event.

·        To show us that Angels will have an important role in gathering up God’s people.

·        To give all believers hope.

What does the passage reveal about the character of : God/Jesus?

A.   His attributes: 

·         Son of Man, Savior, Powerful, Divine Authority.

·        When the things I count on fail, do I remain at peace, knowing God is still in control of the world?

·        Who or what is in control of my life?

·        Am I anticipating with joy how God is going to reveal Himself with power and glory even through my present darkness and turmoil?

My prayer for you:

I pray you will take God’s Word to heart and ask God to help you apply what you have learned. I hope and pray that this Bible Study helps you grow spiritually by deepening your faith, trust and love for God.

Jesus declared that if we seek God, he will provide everything we need to live the abundant life, providing for us physically and spiritually:

Daily Application ideas:

·        Pray! Ask God to help you understand the passage of scripture you are

          reading.

·        Pray! Ask God to help you apply what you are learning.

·        Write down your thoughts and prayers. Seek to understand what God is

          trying to teach you.

·        Begin to make changes in your patterns of behavior in accordance to 

          God’s teaching.

·        Act on God’s answer to prayer.

·        Put God first in your life in every area of your life 

         (Marriage, Parenting, Ministry, Work etc.).

·        Be determined to make quality & quantity time for God in your life

           (ex. Quiet time, prayer time, Bible reading/study).

·        Other questions may come to mind as you read.

·        The questions are just helpful guidelines.

·        Following the reading of the passage of scripture take a moment to write

          down your thoughts.

·        After you have asked yourself the above Template questions, answer the

          questions specifically. 

·        Refer back to above questions when you need to.

·        Then concentrate on a couple of things that are meaningful to you

          personally. 

·        Then go to the application section.

·        Think through the application questions and journal your thoughts and

          prayers.
