The Gospel Of Mark Bible Study Lesson 66:
This
week’s Bible Study of Mark’s Gospel will again include questions for you to
answer. Once you finish the lesson on your own. You can look at my answers.
Anytime you do Bible study ask yourself these 3 questions:
3
questions:
·
What is this passage about?
·
What do I learn from this passage?
·
How can I apply what I have learned to my life?
Scripture
to meditate on before you do this week’s Bible study:
Luke
1:31-33 NIV
You
will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name
Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord
God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the
house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."
Matthew
24:42-44 NIV
Therefore
keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the
house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept
watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the
Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

This
Week’s Bible passage from the Gospel of Mark:
Mark 13:3-8
Read
the passage below:
Mark
13:3-8 NIV
3As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple,
Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately, 4"Tell us,
when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all
about to be fulfilled?"
5Jesus said to them: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 6Many
will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and will deceive many. 7When
you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must
happen, but the end is still to come. 8Nation will rise against
nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various
places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

answer to His disciples.
Matthew
24:3 NIV
As
Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him
privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and

·
In an attitude of belief, one may bring his question
to Jesus.
·
Jesus wants His people informed about the future so
as not to be misled or fearful.
Is
there a warning, command or promise?
·
Jesus
tells us to” watch out that no one deceives you” He warns us about false
Christ’s.
·
Jesus
explains to His disciples about the signs to look for when He will return:
·
Many will come in
my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and will deceive many.
·
When you hear of
wars and rumors of wars.
·
Nation will rise
against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
·
There will be earthquakes in various places, and
famines.
Is
there an example to follow or not to follow?
·
The
disciples understood through Jesus’ teaching that He was the Messiah and that at
some point in the future, after His death and ascension to Heaven, He would
return to earth to set up God’s kingdom. (Referred to as the second coming of
Christ)
The Second
Coming is the event when Jesus will return to destroy evil, defeat His enemy
the antichrist. He will then establish His Millennial Kingdom.
Here are some
details of the work Jesus will do when he returns to earth:
- He will raise from the dead and judge those who have known his message and so are responsible to such judgment.
(2 Tim 4:1; Rom 14:10; 2 Cor 5:10;
Dan 12:2)
- He will set up God's kingdom on earth and will establish his throne in Jerusalem, its Metropolis.
(Luke
1:32-33; Jer 3:17; Zech 14:9; Isa 2:3; Matt 5:35)
- He will execute judgment on those nations who resist his authority and He will compel them to submit.
(Isa 2:4; Psa 2:9-12; 2 Thess 1:8)
- He will extend his kingdom to cover the whole earth and after reigning for a thousand years, which is the last stage of the world's redemption, He will deliver the kingdom to God the Father.
(Dan 2:44; Dan 7:27; Psa 72:8; Rev
11:15; Rev 20:4; 1 Cor 15:24-28.)
Note:
This is not the
only view about what will happen when Jesus returns
Listed below are
different views that people hold concerning end-times prophecy:
1. Amillennialists: (No Millennium)
1. Amillennialists: (No Millennium)
Believe
that God’s promises regarding the end times are figurative and will not be
literally fulfilled, particularly the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ on the
earth. They believe Satan is bound now in heaven so people everywhere may
believe the gospel. Jesus reigns now in heaven and in and through His people
and will return to reign eternally.
2. Pre-millennialists:
Believe
that Jesus Christ will return to the earth and then establish a 1,000-year
kingdom on earth with His resurrected people and believers who are alive at the
time He comes. It is during this period Satan will be bound.
Three groups of
pre-millennialists include the following:
1. Pre-tribulationists:
Believe
that the rapture will occur prior to the seven year tribulation, but not
necessarily immediately before the tribulation.
2. Mid-tribulationists:
Believe
that the rapture will occur three and one half years into the tribulation, at
beginning of the three and one half year great tribulation.
3. Post-tribulationists:
Believe
that the rapture will not occur until the end of the seven year tribulation,
just prior to the beginning of the millennial kingdom.
One thing we can
count on for sure is that Jesus is coming back and we need to be prepared for
that event!
·
The
disciples asked Jesus to clarify His teaching.
·
We
need to look clearly at Jesus teaching so that we can understand God’s plan and
therefore help others understand it as well. We can ask the Holy Spirit to help
us understand Jesus’ teaching while we read God’s Word.
What are the main points in this passage?
·
Peter,
James, John and Andrew ask Jesus what will take place before His second coming.
·
Jesus
tells the disciples about the kind of events that will take place before He
returns.
Is there a lesson or principle that is a universal truth?
·
Jesus
will return to establish God’s Kingdom.
·
There
will be signs/events that take place before Jesus’ return.
Why did God
put this passage in the Bible?
·
To
give us hope that Jesus will return.
·
To
remind us of God’s providence.
·
To
remind us that Old Testament prophecy will be fulfilled.
·
To
remind us that what Jesus said about Himself was the truth and the hope of the
world.
What
does the passage reveal about the character of : God/Jesus?
A.
His
attributes:
- Messiah, Teacher.
B. His ways of relating/communicating to people:
·
Through
prophetic teaching.
C. His emotions:
D. His views:
·
He
will return after His ascension to heaven, fulfilling prophecy.
·
Jesus
tells us to be on guard and alert because of those who are trying to deceive us
by claiming to be Jesus.
E. Reasons for us to love Him more:
·
Jesus
is going to fulfill God’s plan and set up His Millennial Kingdom.
3. Application: How can I apply what I have learned
to my life?
·
Do
I live today looking at the signs of the times as fulfillment of scripture?
·
Will
I take questions that trouble me to Jesus today?
·
Do
I trust Jesus’ answers enough to live by them?
·
How
much time do I spend in God’s Word so that I can discern the true from the
false?
·
Will
I take to heart Jesus’ instructions to keep from being deceived or fearful?
·
Am
I drawing comfort at the upheaval in today’s world?
……………………………………………………………………………….......
My
prayer for you:
I pray you will take God’s Word to heart and ask God to help you
apply what you have learned. I hope and pray that this Bible Study helps you
grow spiritually by deepening your faith, trust and love for God.
Jesus
declared that if we seek God, he will provide everything we need to live the
abundant life, providing for us physically and spiritually:
Matthew 6:32-33 Living Bible (TLB)
“So
don’t worry at all about having enough food and clothing. Why be like the heathen?
For they take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about them.
But your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them, and
he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live as
he wants you to.
John 10:10 English Standard Version (ESV)
The
thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may
have life and have it abundantly.
Philippians 4:19 New Living Translation (NLT)
And
this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his
glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
John 14:26 (NIV)
But
the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will
teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Also,
remember the importance and impact of embracing of God’s Word in light of how
we are to be God’s Ambassadors and Teachers, as well as to live abundantly in a
fallen world:
1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
But
in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an
answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
But do this with gentleness and respect,
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
All
Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped
for every good work.
Psalm 119:105 (ESV)
Your
word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
John 8:31-32 (NIV)
To
the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you
are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set
you free.”
