This Week’s Bible passage from the Gospel of Mark:

Mark 8:22-26

Read the passage below:

Mark 8:22-26 New International Version   Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida 22 They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?” 24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.” 25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.”

2.    Lesson: What do I learn from this passage?

Jesus may lead one away from familiar surroundings to give progressive new sight

Is there a warning, command or promise?

·        Jesus tells the blind man not to go back to the village.

Is there an example to follow or not to follow?  

·        Like the ones who led the blind man to Jesus we should also   lead others to Jesus.

·        Like the Blind man, we should listen to Jesus’ voice by reading God’s Word and be attuned to the Holy Spirit. (Apply the scripture below)

John 10:27-30 NIV
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one."

 What are the main points in this passage?

·        After arriving in Bethsaida Jesus and His disciples were met by

          some people who begged Jesus to heal a blind man.

·        Jesus took the man by the hand and headed outside the village.

·        Jesus healed the blind man with a 2 step process.

·        The man’s eyesight was restored.

·        The man was told by Jesus not to go back to the village.

Is there a lesson or principle that is a universal truth?

·         Jesus healed the blind man using a process instead

           of an instantaneous healing.  Followers of Jesus go through

           a process of sanctification: ("to set apart" or "to make holy"

           regenerated, united to Christ and justified, sanctified or "set

           apart" from the world and sin.) This process starts with a faith

           in Jesus.

·        Jesus healed the man in a way that increased his faith.

·        The first time Jesus touched the blind man’s eyes the blind man began to see some images building his faith in the fact that Jesus could heal him. When Jesus touched the blind man’s eyes a second time the blind man’s sight returned. 

·        As followers of Jesus our faith in Him will grow over time as we become more spiritually connected to Him through prayer and Bible Study.

·        When we come to Jesus in faith He will open our eyes to the truth.

If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

·        Jesus has the power to heal.

·        Many times Jesus told others that their faith had healed them.

Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has healed you."

 Why did God put this passage in the Bible?

·        To make it clear that Jesus had power and authority from God to heal.

·        Through our faith in Jesus we will experience a spiritual awakening that opens our eyes to the truth.

What does the passage reveal about the character of : God/Jesus?

A.   His attributes: 

·        Merciful. Compassionate. Has the power to heal. 

 

B. His ways of relating/communicating to people:     

·        Through His actions. Through His Word.

C. His emotions:    

·        Jesus understood and took a strong interest in the blind man’s true need   

D. His views:

·        Those who come to Jesus in Faith will have their eyes open to the truth. 

E. Reasons for us to love Him more:    

·        Jesus has love and compassion for the lost, those blinded by their sin.

My prayer for you:

I pray you will take God’s Word to heart and ask God to help you apply what you have learned. I hope and pray that this Bible Study helps you grow spiritually by deepening your faith, trust and love for God.

Jesus declared that if we seek God, he will provide everything we need to live the abundant life, providing for us physically and spiritually:

Also, remember the importance and impact of embracing of God’s Word in light of how we are to be God’s Ambassadors and Teachers, as well as to live abundantly in a fallen world:

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Daily Application ideas:

·        Pray! Ask God to help you understand the passage of scripture you are

          reading.

·        Pray! Ask God to help you apply what you are learning.

·        Write down your thoughts and prayers. Seek to understand what God is

          trying to teach you.

·        Begin to make changes in your patterns of behavior in accordance to 

          God’s teaching.

·        Act on God’s answer to prayer.

·        Put God first in your life in every area of your life 

         (Marriage, Parenting, Ministry, Work etc.).

·        Be determined to make quality & quantity time for God in your life

           (ex. Quiet time, prayer time, Bible reading/study).

·        Other questions may come to mind as you read.

·        The questions are just helpful guidelines.

·        Following the reading of the passage of scripture take a moment to write

          down your thoughts.

·        After you have asked yourself the above Template questions, answer the

          questions specifically. 

·        Refer back to above questions when you need to.

·        Then concentrate on a couple of things that are meaningful to you

          personally. 

·        Then go to the application section.

·        Think through the application questions and journal your thoughts and

          prayers.
